The Departments

After nearly 10 years of trading, we have decided to take un petit séjourn.

It would be easy to lay the blame on the "economic climate" or "the worst recession in years" or "the rise of the stelvin closure".

To be successful you need the support of your regulars, a product that someone wants, and all at a price that your customers are willing to pay. You also need the support of the Government.

The rise in excise duty (you do know that it went up when VAT went down, but didn't go down when VAT went up!), fuel costs and the strength of the euro have all contributed to "difficult trading conditions".

The product (ie the wine) is still fantastic; the opportunity to get it in front of consumers has now become much harder.

Our recommendation is to visit the producers - but then, you knew that already!

PS I make no apology for most of these being "southern wines" - it is where the innovation is happening!
